Daily Reading: 2 Peter
The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9 NIV)
I have a long list of names of friends and loved ones to pray for. In the beginning, I would just write their names and pray occasionally or whenever I remembered them. This year, as I became consistent in my time with the Lord, He put a burden in my heart to lift them up to Him every morning. The number one burden I have is my sister’s family, who is growing in number and believes strongly in Islam. I’m happy that I have a church family who is praying with me through Groups in Common. At the moment, only one of the daughters-in-law is now a Christian. But, honestly, in my mind, I want to witness how God will transform all their lives now.
Then He reminded me of this verse that He is patient with everyone. He gives time for every person to respond to His call. He has His own perfect timing. I remember a story from a pastor about his grandfather who heard the gospel at the age of 16 but never responded. A friend of his grandfather never stopped praying. In fact, he wrote his name at the back of his Bible, where he listed all the names of people he had led to Jesus. One day the pastor called his grandfather’s friend to tell him that the grandfather accepted Jesus at age 85. The friend said, “Now I can mark a check by his name together with the others.”
Cultivating and planting to me means praying continually until things happen. I may not see results in my lifetime, but I have confidence that He will not let anyone perish. He who promised, is faithful… (Hebrews 10:23)
